Some Moving Tips (Not all may be applicable)

Congratulations on the sale of your home! Here are some tips to prepare you for Moving Day.

Book the Movers: It is a good idea to obtain estimates from several different companies.
Book the Elevator: If you are moving in to a strata complex, it may be necessary to contact the Property Manager to reserve the elevator for your move.

If You Own Your Present Home:

Arrange to have your
  - Gas
  - Electric meters
  read on the day you leave and have the bills forwarded to your new address.

Disconnect your
  - Telephone
  - Cable TV

If You Rent Your Present Home:

Disconnect your
  - Telephone
  - Cable TV
Give the necessary written notice to your landlord and make arrangements for the return of any money you have on deposit.

At Your "New" Home:

Make arrangements for the
  - Gas
  - Electric meters
  - Telephone
  - Cable TV
  to be connected on the Possession date.

In General :

Get "Change Address" cards from the post office and send them out well before the moving day to relatives, friends, charge accounts, etc. Or notify by email.
Have the post office forward your mail to your new address.
Cancel any contracted services and pre-authorized cheques.
Return things borrowed and collect those loaned.
Inform
  - Gardening
  - Dry cleaning
  - Garbage pickup
  - Newspapers
  - Magazines
  - and other home services.
  And arrange for services at your new address.
Cancel or transfer
  - School enrollment
  - Social
  - Athletic
  - Civic
  - Religious affiliations
  - Business affiliations
  - Memberships.
Notify insurance companies:
  - Health
  - Life
  - Auto
  - Home owners
  - and check with agent regarding coverage en route.
Change the address on your driver's license(s) effective the day of the move.
Collect all items out for cleaning, repairs, or storage, e.g. dry cleaning.
Make special arrangements for the moving of perishable, such as plants.
Make special arrangements for the moving of your pets.
Safely dispose of all flammable liquids as it is illegal for movers to carry them.
